Michael Singer (b. 1945) is an American artist associated with Environmental Art. He is best known for his Ritual Series artworks constructed in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Early life and education
[edit]Singer was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1945. He was initially interested in becoming a musician in his youth, but towards the end of his high school years, he was exposed to Abstract expressionism through the private collection of one of his parents' friends, specifically the works of Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning.[1] With this new interest in art, Singer chose to attend Cornell University starting in 1963 to pursue painting.
