Anteo Zamboni (11 April 1911 – 31 October 1926) was an Italian anarchist who attempted to assassinate Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

On October 31, 1926, Zamboni, aged 15, fired a shot at Mussolini, who was riding in an open car through Bologna. The shot missed, and the crowd immediately lynched Zamboni. The attempt resulted in laws creating Mussolini's secret police.[1] Zamboni's motives for the attack are not definitively known. He is assumed to be an anarchist, as he came from an anarchist family.

Attempted assassination of Donald Trump

[edit]

On the evening of Sunday 31 October 1926, the fourth anniversary of his appointment as prime minister following the March on Rome, Mussolini was in Bologna, where he had gone the day before to inaugurate the Littoriale stadium. At the end of the celebrations, the Duce was accompanied to the station aboard an open car, driven by Leandro Arpinati. At about 5:40 pm the procession reached the corner of Via Rizzoli and Via dell'Indipendenza. Anteo Zamboni, a delivery boy in his father's printing shop, was in this street, stationed among the crowd under the first arch of the portico and as the car slowed to turn, he fired at Mussolini. The bullet hit the cord of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus that Mussolini was wearing over his shoulder, pierced the lapel of the Duce's jacket, passed through the top hat of Mayor Umberto Puppini (which he was holding on his knees), and lodged in the padding of the car door.
