Maori Karmael Holmes (born May 2, 19...) is an American curator and film producer. She is the founder and executive director BlackStar Projects. BlackStar projects organizes BlackStar Film Festival, an annual film festival held in Philadelphia, PA.
Career
[edit]Holmes founded BlackStar Film Festival in 2012. BlackStar Projects is the parent organization of the festival. Before founding BlackStar, Holmes co-founded Black Lily, a brand that promoted female musicians. Mercedes Martinez and Tracey Moore were additional co-founders.
In February 2018, Holmes was announced as the executive director of Array Alliance, a non-profit. ARRAY, an independent distribution company founded by filmmaker Ava DuVernay.[1] She left the organization in 2019.
