Mario Parial is a graphic artist, sculptor, painter and a teacher. He graduated in 1969 with a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Santo Tomas where he also taught printmaking and painting.
Known for his folk and mythological interest in his art where the woman figure is central to the composition, he has garnered top prizes from almost all the leading art competition in the country. In 1972, the Cultural Center of the Philippines honored him as one of the year's Thirteen Artist awardees.
He has exhibited extensively in the Philippines and in other countries since his first solo show in 1965. As a fine arts student at UST in the early 1960s, Parial left a marked impression as a graphic artist doing mainly rubbercuts and woodcuts, but indulging in etching, serigraphy and lithography on the side. He actively continued to produce prints until the late 1960s.
The succeeding decade of the 1970s saw Parial engaged in sporadic print productions. After which he swiftly switched to acrylic and oil painting, a vocation he has immersed himself into the present.
