User:Verbistheword/organizingmeetups/Wikimedia-specific ways to find out about events
This page is in-progress as a listing of ways to tell people about events. For now, it's mixing generic, Missouri-specific, and not-exactly-existing-yet ways to do this. It is inspired by a page previously used by Wikimedia DC.
Some ways will work better for people edit regularly and others will work better for folks who are new or edit infrequently, and have been sorted into "Wikimedian" and "public" subsections, accordingly. Some ways may work well for both groups, or work well if Wikimedians use them as a way to spread the word, and have been sorted into a "crossover" subsection.
When choosing which ways to tell people about your event, first think about what kind and mix of people you would like to attend. Picking a few options and focusing on them might be more effective than trying to do all of them.
Basic: Do this every time!
[edit]- Create a Wikipedia meetup page (e.g. Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 17)
Calendars
[edit]Public
[edit]- Add to local sites with related purposes (in DC, such as http://dctechevents.com)
- (Ask to) add it to the calendar for the venue you're using, if applicable.
- For example: Venture Cafe's calendar
Wikimedian
[edit]- Update Template:Meetup
- Add to This Month in GLAM newsletter calendar. [2]
- Add to a group Google Calendar (which we haven't decided to make yet).
Might see it, might not: Social media, newsletters, etc

- Post to a group Facebook page (which we haven't decided to make yet).
