From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Victory Day is a holiday that commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany. This holiday is celebrated on the 9th of May in Russia and some other countries which were parts of the USSR once. The year 2020 is 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The 2020 Moscow Victory Day Parade was held on the Red Square on 24 June 2020. It was a military parade to commemorate not only the capitulation of Nazi Germany but also the historic Moscow Victory Parade of 1945. The coronavirus pandemic affected the preparations heavily. The government decided not to have any spectators and to postpone the parade to June, 24. However, many veterans had their "personal parades", being organized at their homes by soldiers of local military units.

The Motherland Calls is one of the most famous sculptures in the world. It is the compositional centre of the monument-ensemble "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" on Mamayev Kurgan situated in the Russian city - Volgograd. It was designed by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and structural engineer Nikolai Nikitin. It seems that there is no person for whom this monument would not cause a storm of emotions. But it turned out that art is eternal, but concrete does not stand the test of time. That is why the monument was restored for the anniversary day.

Immortal regiment is an international public patriotic movement to preserve the personal memory of the great World War II. The "Immortal regiment" marches in Russia on May 9, 2020 were canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, an online promotion was held. Each participant could upload a photo of a veteran relative and information about him on special sites. About 2.7 million people supported that idea and took part in an online movement. Finally an endless film of portraits and stories of war heroes was aired. The broadcast began on the 9th of May and lasted for 20 days. It was watched by about 25 million people from all over the world.
