I am a new user, currently researching my first article. Constructive advice most welcome! --VPeck (talk) 00:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I am working up an article for Eureka Machines and would appreciate suggestions to how I can improve this VPeck (talk) 00:13, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hello there! Saw your message and have had a look at your Eureka Machines draft article. So far it's coming along nicely - I'll be interested to see how it develops. Here are a few suggestions:
- - Separate the band's history from details on the line-up as much as you can (too much detail swamps the flow of information). For example, the second section in the article can deal with the band's current lineup and related projects in the first paragraph, with a second paragraph briefly listing former members and their work.
- - Try to arrange the history of the band in as linear a fashion as possible, again without slowing down the flow of the information. (You seem to be doing this already).
- - Don't quote every single piece of press that the band has received (you're not doing this yet, but avoid doing it in the future. If there are several useful and consecutive quotes you'd like to use, try to put at least one of them in a sidebox.
- - If you like one of my articles (or one written by anyone else) visit it, select the edit tag and see how the Wiki codes work within the article (copy them to Notepad or something and then pick apart/revise the copy for use in your own article). Whenever I've wanted to find out how someone achieved that nifty template, I've taken this approach...
- - Protect the article by including, in the first paragraph, information which asserts the band's notability (see Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Notability_(music)). I have had articles threatened with deletion due to being allegedly "non-notable" in terms of subject matter, so defend your article sensibly. Chris Catalyst's role in Sisters of Mercy (a notable band with chart hits) may help here.
- - Don't be too afraid of messing up the article a bit on your first try. All articles develop and many people will help you to improve them (whether you want them to or not!)
- Keep up the good work. - Dann Chinn (talk) 07:33, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

New article: Union of Knives. I've just started a new article for Union of Knives. Constructive advice most welcome, especially on how to display references for print articles! I could do with some help on the ref links. I have the content it's just how to include it correctly Many thanks VPeck (talk) 21:02, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
