Marwan Moussa
[edit]Marwan Moussa (Arabic: مروان موسى ; born on 10 January 1995) is a Cairo-based trap artist and producer[1]. In recent years, he has become one of the most listened-to artists in Egypt on global streaming platforms and has been voted Best African Rapper and Best Artist in African Hip-Hop at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2022 edition[2]
Early Life
[edit]Moussa was born as Marwan Mohamed Moussa (Arabic: مروان محمد موسى) on 10 January 1995 in Isamalia, Egypt to an Egyptian father and a German mother[3]. At a young age, he was exposed to a variety of different cultures and languages due to his parents' backgrounds. This early exposure had a profound effect on Moussa's later life and music. To further his education, Moussa studied directing in a university in Italy for four years and then switched to sound engineering in America. Finally, in 2017, he decided to focus on his passion of singing and publishing his own work[4] . As a result of his studies and traveling, he has become fluent in multiple languages, including German, English, Italian, and Spanish.
Music career
[edit]When Marwan Moussa first watched the 2004 Eminem film "8 Mile," he fell in love with rap. He was also a fan of 50 Cent, who served as his inspiration for beginning his music career. Moussa begun trying out rapping in English and posting on social media for the sake of entertainment.
After graduating from his university in 2016, he returned back to Egypt and decided to start rapping in Arabic to pursue his passion. At that time, he was influenced by an American producer Metro Boomin, known for his concurrent Hip-Hop and trap.
"ElGoz2 El Tany,"his first song clip, which he published in 2017, marked the official start of his music career. He then decided to start collaborating with other rappers to take a step forward in his profession, as he sent his music tracks to Egyptian rapper Abyusif to work with him. Afterwards, they released a song named "Hatsaraf," which was his first collaborative effort.
"Baghbaghan," a song that Moussa produced for Abyusif in 2017, became one of his first productions to reach one million on Soundtrack. Abyusif and Moussa became closer and started assisting each other with songwriting, as they continued to publish new tracks and work together.
By the end of 2017, the song "Raptor" featuring Hesham Hassan from the album "Belmonasba" was released. The song received positive reviews and feedback and was enjoyed by several listeners. Marwan Moussa was criticized for being influenced by the rapper Abyusif, with the assumptions and accusations that he was hiding in his shadow. However, after releasing this second album six months after the first one was released, he proved his talent and attracted attention. He then collaborated with Afroto, an Egyptian rapper and beatboxer, and published the song "Ana Motafael."
By the time his name started to get greater recognition in late 2018, he had released a video titled "Kiki." Another track named "Masr El Gedida," which was released two weeks after the following clip's release, illustrated Marwan's success and dedication to producing content for himself. After all the song publications, he then took a three-month break before making a remarkable reappearance.
Marwan gained national attention in 2019 after releasing the album "Propaganda." He was most known for the songs "Nehayt El 3alam" and "Far3oon."
In May 2020, the song "Sheraton" was released; it was a successful music video that helped Marwan break into the mainstream among rappers who work in media and advertising. At that time, Moussa was one of the top 50 Arab singers on Anghami and one of the top MENA artists on Deezer.
In 2022, Moussa had a preeminent year with his hits like "7adota Almany" and "Batal 3alam" as well as "3a2d E7teraf." Through his frequent collaborations, international bookings, and his growing career, he has been winning awards and being placed as one of Egypt's most popular rappers.
Recently, Moussa has released a collaborative track with the Moroccan rapper Stormy called "DoubleZuksh." He is starting off 2023 with new songs and announcing his upcoming episode, "Shokran."

Despite the tough competition from other well-known African musicians, he emerged as the victor. The awards show saw nominations from prominent Egyptian artists like Wegz, the Cairokee team, the Disco Misr team, Ruby, Ahmed Saad, Ali Loka and others, who were contending in various categories, but didn't receive any awards. Marwan Moussa started his musical journey in 2017 and gained widespread recognition in 2019 through his hit song “Nhayt El 3alam.” He has been seen in advertisements for We, Etisalat, and Freska and also participated in the official song for the 2021 Men's Handball World Championship Cup together with Tamer Hosny and Hoda Sherbeeny.
