Projects devoted to the 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory — the year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender. The Great Patriotic War ended 75 years ago. President V.V.Putin declared 2020 the Year of Memory and Glory in honor of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War [1] In honor of this event, plenty of thematic projects have been carried out throughout Russia to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the war.
"I Remember" project
[edit]In the year of celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory, the organizing committee "Our Victory" together with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the "Victory Volunteers" movement and other departments work in coordination in order to create a single interactive map of all military graves and memorial sites on the territory of Russian Federation. The "I Remember" project will allow to form an objective picture of the state of military memorial sites in Russia. The goal of the project is to combine disparate digital resources containing information about various objects into a single system. About 20 000 volunteers from all regions of the country are involved in the collection of information.[2]
"Beacons of friendship. Victory Day is one for all" project
[edit]In July, the project called "Beacons of friendship. Victory Day is one for all" was implemented. From 20 to 26 July activists from different countries visited the Moscow Region, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Pskov and St. Petersburg, as well as several Caucasian republics.
Thanks to this project, volunteers had an opportunity to see significant historical and cultural sites: the Battle of Stalingrad State Historical and Memorial Museum, the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier, and the Curonian Spit National Park. The volunteers were also able to contribute to the preservation of the historical memory of hardships of the war: they carried out work on the restoration of memorials and mass graves, took part in excavations at the sites of military operations of the Great Patriotic War as part of search teams.[3]
