'Urus Wildking'
Urus Wildking is : " Nizar Alsaleh " as birth name and he is pure solo Project and a one man's own vision and dream. It's a combination of endless running thoughts trying to find their destiny on notes and paper, mystic sensations, passions and improvisations inspired by pure individual experience of all life aspects The main concept of these instrumental music compositions is improvising my inner music with colorful rhythms of my soul , personality and individuality.
I started to write music in the early 90's then I quit the idea of writing songs and music and even playing music after a series of failures and frustrations including moving from a local band to another (bands like: Night Wolves, Force Major ;Life Tattoo, Cat Rapes Dog...and some others) also replacing band members sometimes. and I have even failed to form a band of my own more than once for different reasons; financially sometimes different musical influences, directions and genres between band members in some others... & etc.
In brief there was always failure, disappointment and frustration. Then in 2003 it was just like a spark when I held my Ibanez acoustic guitar and wrote a couple of music compositions as a demo and surprisingly they were quite acceptable, good, completely improvisational and groovy, then I got this idea of improvising music rather than writing, that's where I let my inner soul, my subconscious, my passions my emotions and deep feelings flow over my body and mind and do the work for me in overwhelming state of trance and rapture. My music is totally improvisational, passionate, raw, nostalgic, melancholic , anxious and groovy sometimes, with a storytelling progression and snapshots of memories, recollections impulsions , sudden pulses and desperate drive. It's a fusion of ethnic, rock, punk, blues, jazz, gothic and progressive elements It's a pure biographical music. In all of my compositions I played, mixed and recorded all of the sounds and instruments trying to make my music 100% personal & unique just like my fingerprint.
Personal Biography
Free your soul” he said to me, “free your soul and imagine” he said again, then silently disappeared into the dark dungeons of uncertainty and oblivion, while those words kept clinging on my mind up to this very day. “Free your soul and imagine “I couldn’t ever realize it, but now after three decades the meaning is clearer, and those words are much louder in my head now. I have always believed that music, art, and poetry are more than just an approach to express one’s feeling, emotions, and opinions; they are also more than just an entertainment or hobby ,they are merits and privileges; they are my lifestyle. Music, art, & poetry besides some few other interests like: history, mythology, politics, and religions are the true essence of my wild free spirit, the core of my philosophy in this inconsistent material world, the space where I spread my wings proudly. They are irreplaceable, perpetual, evolving, as well they are rendering the mankind’s journey to eternity. They are essential and profoundly influential on our modern societies and through all mankind civilizations.
In one summer mid-day of hot livid August in 1973, I announced my existence as "Nizar Alsaleh" my birth given name, an eldest child to a Palestinian middle class family, in a city that had witnessed the birth of so many as it witnessed the birth of history and outlined the human civilizations in its monuments, and alleys. From Hittites to the Romans and from Crusaders to Ottomans through all stages of history. Aleppo was there with all her splendor witnessing and writing a story of her own. Aleppo the northern city of Syria; the most sophisticated & the most controversial; a city that is well branded with music, arts, literature and poetry, besides it’s the most ancient city of all. You can hear thousands and thousands of stories, fairytales, epics, and songs from its ancient walls and miraculous gates, from people faces and from everywhere in this enchanted city while you are walking in its old meshed markets and bazaars breathing the air that nicely mixed with thyme, sage, and Laurel. Although it was to my family just a transit period, a waiting station in the way back home, “We will return back “ they said, “it’s not our city, we don’t belong here “they used to say as well and I waited with them; we all were waiting to hear the bells of liberty, for our train’s hooter of our ride back home;Tarshiha, our original homeland and town in Palestine.Yet we are all still waiting,The transit time is still not finished yet. 62 years ago, my father had migrated from Tarshiha in 1948 as refugee after the Israeli occupation of Palestine. My father “Afif Alsaleh” is retired handcrafts & art teacher and a poet as well, he dedicated all his poetry to support the Palestinian call, and my mother “Nayla Abu Khreiby” was a fashion designer and seamstress for royal princesses of Saudi Arabia back in the 60s and early 70s before she got married.
Colors were always a fascinating world to me, a captivating mystery as I used to watch my father working on his paintings, and always wondered where colors came from? How they do look impressive like that? Why I’m so attached to them? And could I apply them and paint as perfectly as my father did? At age of five, I made my first proper acquaintance with colors, brushes and canvas, I showed a great interest and remarkable drive for painting and colors, my early paintings at that age proved a clear talent.
Colors, drawings, and fantasy characters of children stories, comic books, and fairytales drew a lot of my attention and curiosity and slowly I started to read more and more, then later I turned into a bookworm spending most of time reading every story, fairytale, and comic book that reached my hand. Then a couple of years later I started to write some short comics merging my painting talent with early writing ability using few colored crayon pens and rich vivid imagination.
Then at age of nine, I wrote my first poem during a boring math class that had lost with numbers and equations and got caught by the classroom teacher and she call my parents for a meeting to express her admiration with my newborn simple poetic talent. A year after that I wrote my first theater play titled "Gulliver & His Pirates” it was a simple theater play depicting a pirate’s captain named Gulliver fighting against a rebellion on his ship during a pursuit journey to some mystical hidden treasure in the Caribbean islands. Then I wrote three more theater plays for my school, “Hording Tribes,” “Stones of Fire” and “In Pursuit Of Happiness”. When other kids used to spend their times playing football, hanging out & discovering their outer world, I spent most of my days defining my inner world, my world within, lonely with no friends around but my books and stories ,my brushes , my crayons and colors.
I made a small school art exhibition of fifty paintings when I was thirteen years old So were the next few years full of a lot of readings, books, stories, painting, and writing comics, short stories, and plays. Until finally in 1995 I found my talent more into poetry than any other type of literatures I completely destroyed whatever had written before as a sigh of a birth of my poetic career and I didn’t write anything else but poetry ever since while I continued painting more, drawing more, I also studied the different art schools, art methodologies, and techniques through all these past years.
“What do you like for your coming birthday” my father asked me few days before my 15th birthday, “a stereo tape recorder “I answered immediately, so the next day I found myself with my father in a big electronics shop buying new stereo tape recorder and the salesman of the shop played some powerful loud music to show the features and the quality of his product , that music was quite interesting and exciting to me ,it simply blow my mind and my curiosity was triggered “ what is this music” I said , “ Scorpions , this is their latest album Savage amusement “ salesman replied. I bought that album that day and other Scorpions albums later and thus I was introduced to the world of Rock& Roll. Bands like “Scorpions”, “Pink Floyd” , “Uriah Heep”,” Judas Priest”, “Nazareth”, “White Snake”, “Led Zeppelin”, “Black Sabbath” ,”Helloween”, “Iron Maiden”, “Deep Purple” and “Rainbow” had great influence on me, I was touched by the roaring sound of their guitars , the harmony of their solos, their powerful rhythms and more inspired by their lyrics and creativity. Generally Rock & Heavy Metal music had greatly motivated me to bind my artistic talents and eventually drove me to start learning music and playing guitar.I had studied music in a private music institute in Aleppo called “Aleppo Music Institute” for a short period, before I dropped out , then I continued practicing & studying music by himself collecting music books and materials for guitar music theories and methodologies from friends, music teachers and some local musicians & guitarists in Aleppo.
After three years of practicing and studying alone I joined a newly lined up local band called “Night wolves”, forming a Rock band in Aleppo in early nineties wasn’t easy & possible, It involved so many difficulties and obstacles starting from finding the professional music instruments and equipments, to the financial issues and funds as we have to contribute with our pocket money to buy or rent the musical instruments, finding and renting the suitable place for rehearsals, with no any sponsorship, also the disapproval and inconformity of the society culture for such type of art and music concerning appearance, attitude, and the loud, aggressive sound, we felt like aliens in our city !! Even though all those obstacles the band managed to survive and start rehearsing and preparing for their first live concert although I showed up in all the band rehearsals and jam sessions but I never performed with them in a live concert, the members of the band insisted on performing only cover Heavy Metal songs in their live concerts and live jam sessions and refused to play any original music, while I had insisted to play more original music on concerts believing that always performing cover songs for such various bands with different genres will never get the band to any place further than a Pub band doing some gigs in the local pubs and will not develop a well known personality & musical direction for the band. During the same period I was involved in forming of other Rock bands in Aleppo such: “Life Tattoo”,
“Force Major”, “Redemption” and “Cat Rapes Dog”.
In 1997, Black Metal, Doom & Death Metal were the mainstream genre in metal music, I felt more attached, attractive, and my musical talent and skills are more fit to such genres beside the obsession of forming a band of my own had never stopped. So I started “Krematorium” my own dream quartet, a band that was never made to survive, as we were preparing and rehearsing for our first studio EP recording session which was supposed to be followed by a live concerts in both Aleppo and Damascus, two members had left the band and I failed to replace them, four months later the lead vocalist also left to join another line up and I was left alone in a band desperately looking for a whole new line up to start all over again. Frustrations, disappointments, failures accompanied with helplessness and shortage, unpolished musical skills with lack of experience and sustain all had congregated to shatter my dream of leading a band that could play my original music. On the other hand those were the factors that developed my poetic skills and improved my painting capabilities and talent.
Frustrations, heartaches, hardship of our Middle Eastern reality beside a helpless ambition, and restless obsession had all kept on inspiring my wild unleashed imagination to create more Abstract, cubism, avant-garde and pop art paintings and write more surrealism , nihilism and symbolism poems that implied an affectionate agonized living experience and a personal memoir.
Jazz music was consequent motivation, drive and delight, it opened the door widely to whole new domain of possibilities, concepts, notions and ideas, and through the next five years it helped me to develop more balanced and sensible character that reflected on my painting style, color palette and themes as it revealed hidden potentials of my poetic approach.
In my quest of new opportunities, of a life full of open possibilities I moved to Abu Dhabi, the Capital of United Arab Emirates, in the summer of 2002 and I started new life with new career as IT Professional but Rock& Roll dreams had never let me have peace of mind, old same obstinate obsessions were always clinging on my mind , spirit and life style. I started again to look for new group between amateur and semi professional musicians that I was meeting of Abu Dhabi’s pubs and live concerts. Though I played in different jam sessions with different local groups in many occasions but I never succeeded to lineup a band of my own.
Then in 2003 it was just like a spark when I held my Ibanez acoustic guitar and improvised a couple of instrumental compositions as a demo and surprisingly they were quite acceptable and impressive, completely improvisational, raw, and unrefined, but very groovy. So I got the idea of improvising music rather than writing it, as I could let my inner soul, my subconscious, my vivid imagination, my passions and deep emotions to flow over my body, my mind and have an absolute possession of my senses and abilities to lead the process of music creation and complete the work for me in overwhelming state of trance and rapture.
In brief; my music is a combination of endless running thoughts, mystic sensations, passions and improvisations inspired by pure individual experience of all life aspects, imaginary apparitions and visionary messagesThe main concept of these instrumental music compositions is improvising the inner music with colorful rhythms and grooves with agonized scream of mischief, misfortune and misery. My music is totally improvisational, passionate, raw, nostalgic, melancholic, anxious and groovy, with a storytelling progression and snapshots of memories, recollections, impulsions, sudden pulses, and desperate drive. It’s a fusion of ethnic, rock, punk, blues, jazz, gothic and progressive elements. It's a pure biographical music.
In all of my compositions I played, mixed and recorded all of the sounds and instruments trying to make my music 100% personal & unique just like my fingerprint.
Now after composing & recording over 100 instrumental compositions individually,I’m still looking for a Label recording contract or Indi recording contract. I’m still pursuing my dream, struggling and striving to be recognized as a prestigious creative original artist.
