URHEKAR
The Surname Urhekar was probably used by the Kulkarni's of the Buldhana District in Maharashtra,India towards the beginning of the 19th century. The second theory is that the earlier Surname of Urhekars was Ratnaparkhi. Later this family has spread across all parts of India and abroad. The current generation of Urhekar's are able to trace back their roots to Late Sh. Gopalrao Urhekar and it also believes that the Surname Urhekar is best attributed to a village name "Urha" near Malkapur.
Late Shri Narayanrao (son of Shri Gopalrao Urhekar) and his wife Chimabai were residents of Lapali, a very tiny village in the Buldhana district near taluka place Malkapur. Shri Narayanrao was a Kulkarni/Patwari of this village and used to collect revenue for the government. He had to travel to nearby villages due to his work. He often traveled on a horseback or by foot. Shri Narayanrao and Sau Chimabai’s family comprised of seven children.

1. Shri Shankar rao alias Nana followed his fathers footsteps did Kulkarni/Patwari job and also worked as a caretaker of the fields for Kashibai for some time. He stayed with his late son Shri Balkrishna Urhkar until his death at Multai (M.P.) in 1971. He also had a daughter.
* His son Late Balkrishna was married to Anuradha. They have 3 sons and one daughter.
**Late Nitin was married and has a son Pushkal
***Shireesh is married to Shivani and has a daughter Vaidehee and a son Shreyan.
****Vipeen is married to Manjusha and has two daughters named Aarya and Varda.
*****Sau. Jayashree is married to Shri Devendra Patil. The couple is blessed with a son Chaitanya and a daughter Payasvini.
*His daughter Late Vijaya was married to Late Shri Prabhakarrao Purandare. The couple had two daughters and a son.
**Sau. Sharayu is married to Shri Abhay Kulkarni. She has two daughter named Sau Shweta
(who is married to Shri Vipul Bhale) and Tejashree.
***Sau Shubhada is married to Shri. Mohan Sant and has a daughter named Sau. Ketki.
****The son of Vijaya is Shashank.
2 Shri Manohar rao alias Bapu studied L.L.B. He worked as a teacher at Hadas High school Nagpur as well as Sule High School Nagpur. He was the Founder member of Hadas High school. Then he worked with the State government in food and civil supply department and Sales Tax Department. Post retirement, he did practice as sales tax consultant. At the time of his death in 1979 in Mumbai, he was staying with wife Meena Bai and his sons. He has a Daughter as well.
*His daughter Neela alias Chandu is married to Shri Govind Bhanap and have a son Richard
(weds Rita and has a son Arjun) and a daughter Nina(weds Nishant Deshpande and has three sons named
Shantanu, Dhananjay and Abhimanu).
**His elder son Sunil alias Nandu is married to Sau. Chitra (Anjali) and has a son Anand (weds Sapna)
and a daughter Ashvini (weds Shri. Narendra Nagarkar and has a son Vihaan and a daughter Prisha).
***His youngest son Anil alias Shyam is married to Sau. Pratibha (Deepa) and has a son Amar
(weds Rashmi and has a son Aadit) and had a daughter Late Shubhada (wedded to Late Shri Aaditya Lanke).
3. Shri. Vinayak rao alias Tatya started his career as teacher and retired as a Head Master of a reputed school in Malkapur. He lost his wife Asha much early in life - he has 2 sons and 3 daughters. He passed away in 1975.
*He was married to Sau.AshaTai,they have two sons and three daughters

Shilpa is married to ShahJahan and has a daughter Shreya.
Renuka is married to Abhijit Mohril and is blessed with a daughter Riya and son Arav.

4. Shri Moreshwar rao alias Moru worked in the state police department and then in IB of Central Government CID. He retired as a D.S.P. for the same department and passed away in the year 2000. He was not blessed with any issues.

Anil/Shamkaka on Urhekar Reunion
During May/June 2013 I was trying to collect more and more info. on URHEKAR's with the idea of family tree.During this time Shobha vahini( wife of Ashutosh Urhekar Nagpur)came to Mumbai and stayed with us for 2/3 days.She is setteled at Nagpur and I knew that she invites many of our relatives including Urhekar families at Nagpur during couple of religious functions at her place.I did speak to her on my subject and she gave many contacts at Nagpur of Urhekar's and Urhekar daughter now married.At that juncture the idea of Urhekar Family Reunion came in my mind and I started working on that.I started contacting Urhekar's and from them got more contacts of Urhekar,spoke to all of them over phone and apprised them of my thought of Reunion.The response was very good.It was a life time experience for me to talk to many of our own people whom I had never seen in life.(hope to see them at Reunion)My 1st communication on Reunion was sent on 2nd June 2013 and today I am here sitting in my home compiling info.on Urhekar and Urhekar daughters.I am feeling very happy and contended that I will be meeting my own people this year.This all is because of the support from you all,blessings of our elders and The Almighty.( 8th Jan 2014 )My special and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Shireesh Urhekar of Lakhni for creating the web page and his contribution in other issues.
