History

[edit]

As far back as the 18th Century there is evidence of migration of Irish families to the United States and what we know today as the United Kingdom. The Largest influx of immigrants came in the 1840's due to the Potato Famine and although the arrival of hundreds of destitute Irish was not welcomed by many it was soon discovered that the Irish influx helped to fill valuable employment gaps in construction, factories, bridges, railways and roadworks. Inspection of immigration and passenger lists show a high number of immigrants bearing the surname Kiely or one of its variants.[1]

Symbolism

[edit]

The Kiely crest is recognized as a knight in armor and is still used to this day within the family to represent their shared ethos of power, respect and war against their enemies.
