English indie pop singer-songwriter Kate Nash has recorded songs for three studio albums and guest features. Nash debuted in 2005, uploading several demos to the social networking service Myspace.[1] She released her debut single "Caroline's a Victim" through independent record label Moshi Moshi Records in February 2007.[1] The release brought her to the attention of Fiction Records, which signed her two months later.[2]
Nash then began to work on her debut studio album, Made of Bricks, which was released in August 2007.[3] It reached number one in the United Kingdom and has since been certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.[4][5] The first single released from the album was "Foundations", which Nash wrote in collaboration with Paul Epworth. They also co-wrote the single "Pumpkin Soup".[3] She collaborated with Alejandro Tovar on "Skeleton Song", co-wrote "Nicest Thing" with Jay Malhotra and penned "Merry Happy" with Anuj Khanna.[3] However, most of the songs were written solely by Nash, including "Birds" and the second single "Mouthwash".[3]
My Best Friend Is You, her second studio album, was released in April 2010. Nash wrote all of its songs,[6] and would continue to do so for her later releases.[7][8] Inspired by Motown and neo soul music,[1] the album charted at number eight in the UK.[4] It produced four singles: "Do-Wah-Doo", "Kiss That Grrrl", "Later On" and "I've Got a Secret". An extended play titled Death Proof followed in November 2012.[9] It featured a cover version of The Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night".[7] The singer released her third studio album, Girl Talk, in March 2013 through her own label Have 10p Records.[10] The album received favourable reviews from music critics and featured a collaboration with Siobhan Malhotra.[8][11] At this time, Nash also appeared as a featured artist on Watsky's single "Hey, Asshole" from his album Cardboard Castles (2013).[12]
