Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College was a coeducational Roman Catholic school situated in Tong, Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The school closed in August 2010 with only the Year 11 students remaining at the site to avoid interrupting their GCSE studies. All other other students transferred to either St Joseph's Catholic College (girls) or St. Bede's Grammar School (boys). The site officially closed in August 2011 when the final cohort of students left and joined St Benedict's Sixth Form.
School history
[edit]The school was formed as a result of a merger between St Margaret Clitheroe School, for girls, and Cardinal Hinsley Grammar, for boys. It ran for 49 years as a coeducational Roman Catholic school before closing in 2010.
From 2008 the school had a federated governing body with St. Bede's Grammar School and St Joseph's Catholic College. In 2009 the decision was made to close Yorkshire Martyrs due to falling Catholic numbers in Bradford and any students remaining in the school were transferred to either St Bede's or St Joseph's with the exception of the new Year 11 cohort who remained at the Yorkshire Martyrs site to avoid disruption to their GCSE studies.
Sixth Form
[edit]In 2008 the sixth forms of St Bede's and St Joseph's joined with the sixth form of Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College to form the Bradford Catholic Sixth Form. When Yorkshire Martyrs closed in 2010 the sixth form transferred to the St Bede's and St Joseph's sites and in 2011 the Sixth Form was renamed St Benedict's Sixth Form.
