The organochlorine PCP (pentachlorophenol, C6Cl5OH is a wood perservative biocide.

Structure

PCP is a polychlorinated aromatic:

Degradation

PCP is degraded by some bacteria, including Sphingobium chlorophenolicum[1]

PCP → TCHQ → TriCHQ → DCHQ → 2,4-dichloro-3-hydroxy-cis,cis-muconic semialdehyde [2]
