Patrick Shannon (born 29 April 1989) also known as Nang Ḵuulas and Evil Patrick[1], is a Haida filmmaker[1], photographer, graphic designer, storyteller and socialpreneur. Patrick is based out of Skidegate, on Haida Gwaii, and works across Canada and internationally.
He uses media and technology to address social and cultural issues that rural and urban Indigenous people face.[2]. Patrick is a socialpreneur, creating Evil Patrick By Design,[3] and has co-founded Project Gwaii, X̱aayda Hub and InnoNative[2]
Background
[edit]Patrick was raised by elders in the village of Skidegate, Haida Gwaii[1]. These teachings instilled a Haida worldview in Patrick from a young age.
Career

[edit]Patrick is the owner and director of InnoNative, a video and graphic design tech-based businesses based out of Haida Gwaii and Vancouver. Patrick works on mini documentaries, short films, music videos, graphic design [4]and promotional pieces for magazines, newspapers, and TV including Global BC, CTV’s Breakfast Television and Sports Illustrated.
InnoNative is focused on developing young talent in rural communities. The production team consists of youth that are being mentored in the film industry. Each project helps support and give opportunities to youth on Haida Gwaii, and develop digital industries for Indigenous people, while maintaining values and traditions.
Awards
[edit]Patrick was recognized by the Ashoka Changemakers and American Express as one of the “Top 15 Emerging Innovators” in Canada.[5]
Patrick won the Young Entrepreneur's Award from the BC Aboriginal Business Awards in 2015[3][6].[7] [8]
