^The initial release of Windows 95 excluded Internet Explorer (IE), instead making it a separate purchase as part of the Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 software. IE 2 was included at no additional charge with Windows 95's free Service Pack 1 update or the paid OEM Service Release (OSR) 1. OSR 2 and 2.1 include IE 3, while OSR 2.5 includes IE 4. All versions, except for IE 4, are optional software that can be officially uninstalled after initial setup.
^Although Internet Explorer (IE) 1.5 can run on Windows NT 4.0, IE 2.0 is included as a bundled but removable program with the OS.
^The Second Edition of Windows 98 includes Internet Explorer 5 instead.[2]
