Triskel Arts Centre Triskel Arts Centre is an umbrella organisation housing a range of creative projects and enterprises. Recognised as a live music venue, cinema and art exhibition space, the centre also houses the independently run Gulpd Café and Plugd Records. The building is also houses the Theatre Development Centre, or TDC. Originally established in 1978 as a means to encourage creative development in Cork City, its location was fluid until 1986 when it moved to its current address on Tobin Street, Cork.
Corcadorca and Theatre Development Centre
TDC
is a studio space dedicated to the development of professional theatre located on the ground floor of Triskel Arts Centre. The space is available free of charge to actors, writers, technical practitioners and those involved in theatre production as a supportive environment in which to create work for the stage.
Plugd Records and Gulpd Café
Plugd Records
is located on the first floor of Triskel Arts Centre is an independently owned shop formerly located on Washington St Cork. It stocks CD’s and vinyl catering to a wide range of musical tastes.
Gulpd Café, Located on the ground floor serves freshly prepared food, drinks and a range of bottled beers and wines from 9.30am to 11pm. Both Plugd and Gulpd frequently host live music and DJ events.
The Black Mariah
This is an artist lead initiative housed on the uppermost floor of Triskel Arts Centre. The purpose of the project is to encourage innovative approaches to visual art and exhibition of new work.
Acquisition of 19th Century Christchurch building
In 2009 the neighbouring 18th century former parish church of Christchurch was bequeathed to Triskel Arts Centre by Cork City Council. Christchurch was deconsecrated as a parish church in 1978. In the interim period it functioned as a storehouse for the city archives.
In 2011 after two years of Archaeological investigations and restoration the former church was incorporated into the existing Triskel Arts Centre structure and re-purposed as a 250 seat music and cinema venue. The original 19th century architectural features including church pews remain intact.
Triskel Christchurch now functions as the main venue for live music concerts, cinema and art exhibitions within Triskel Arts Centre.
