Tirlok Malik (born in New Delhi), acclaimed by Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Today and other media worldwide as a versatile actor, director, producer and filmmaker, has played a wide range of roles: sinister detective… warm uncle… estranged husband… sympathetic doctor… street tough hoodlum… sleazy lawyer… political leader… a phone sex addict… and many more. He has enjoyed them all, whether cabby or guru.

Tirlok Malik has a Bachelor's degree in business from Delhi University and has also attended the New York Academy of Theatrical Arts and the Actor's Institute and Weist Barron School of Television. He founded his own production company, Apple Productions, in 1989. He produced and starred in the movie Lonely in America (1990), which was directed by Barry Alexander Brown and featured a cameo by Spike Lee. Lonely in America has appeared in 74 countries, 32 film festivals, and on HBO. Malik has appeared in numerous commercials and in several off-off-Broadway plays, including: The Indian Wants the Bronx (by Israel Horowitz-150 performances in New York), The hot’l Baltimore (by Lanford Wilson), A Better Tomorrow and the India epic Ramayana (a dance drama). Most recently, he played the role of "Krishna" in the 3-D film, Little Magician (2002). He currently lives in New York City.

NRI actor/producer Tirlok Malik has honored with the 'Outstanding Citizen' award by the New York City Council in collaboration with the Jackson Heights Indian Merchants Association for his filmmaking career.

Tirlok Malik was born in New Delhi in well educated and respected family. After graduation in business from Delhi University, Tirlok Malik had moved to New York for fulfilling his passion for filmmaking, acting and direction. He has attended the Actors Institute, New York Academy of Theatrical Arts, and the Weist Barron School of Television.

As an actor Malik has also acted in more then 40 roles as varied as an strange husband, a successful businessman, a sleazy attorney, a porno shop keeper, a hassled taxi-driver, a street tough, a savvy engineer, a political leader, a phone-sex addict, a sympathetic doctor, a computer technician, an artist and many others. He has modeled for commercials including those for Air India, Altel Telephone company, WABC TV and many others. He has also acted in off-off Broadway Productions of "Indian wants the Bronx", "The Hotel Baltimore", "A Better Tomorrow" and others. On television, he has appeared in Law & Order: criminal Intent, Third Watch and other network and cable shows as well as commercials for ABC Eyewitness News, Air India, Altel, Campbell’s Soup, Earthlink, Microsoft, Nokia, Nature Show (WNET).

On the stage, Malik acted in The Indian Wants the Bronx (by Israel Horowitz-150 performances in New York), The hot’l Baltimore (by Lanford Wilson), A Better Tomorrow, the India epic Ramayana (a dance drama), and other plays.

In addition to his work in American productions, Malik has worked with many stars of India. He starred in a lead role with Deepty Naval and has appeared in Cameos with Al Pacino, Sanjay Dutt, Surya, Kamal Hassan, Tamanna, Manisha Koirila, Mammootty, Rani Mukerjee, Rekha, and superstar Rajinikanth.

After successful career in acting, he has founded his own production company, Apple Productions, in 1989. He has had many triumphs in his life, and these multiple successes praise and applaud his hard work in the film industry. He has become a pioneer in making films on the Indian American immigrant experience.

Malik told, "When I had premier of my film Lonely In America, the best feeling was bringing my parents to the stage. They were so proud of me, and I remember I felt so lucky to have the chance to let them be a part of these blessings. I also remember watching my movie, Lonely in America for the first time with a live audience at a film festival. To watch their reaction to my work, and to see them enjoying themselves, laughing, having a great time, I start to cry. It's from a feeling of satisfaction and approval. Of course, there are always struggles as well. What helps you through the harder times is hope. If you don't have hope, you can't do anything. Hope is the motivation."

Malik’s work has been acclaimed in the international and national media, including The New York Times, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Entertainment, and others. He also received the Pride of India Gold Medal from the Indian Ambassador of the USA.

Malik also founded the NRI TV Film Club, a platform for artists – Indians and multi-cultural people – to come together and create projects. The Club’s motto is “to explore the artist in you.” He has been working effortlessly in the film business as an actor and producer, and has been a true proprietor in capturing the Indian American experience through film and movies.

Tirlok Malik is the recipient of the Pride of India Gold Medal from the Indian Ambassador to the U.S. In 1991, he received the Glory of India International award for promoting cultural understanding between East and West.

Tirlok Malik is a multi-talented personality. Besides Acting, Direction and film making, Malik has been an entrepreneur for the past 20 years as a restaurateur. He has successfully created and executed restaurant concepts including Indian Café and Ayurveda Café located in Manhattan. The New York Times, Newyork Magazine, Time-Out Magazine, The Daily News, local newspapers and many other media outlets have acclaimed his restaurants.

Tirlok Malik's Namaste has been nominated on the bases of historical programming cultural historical category. He became a pioneer in making films on Indian immigrant experiences. He has produced 3 features films, 4 documentaries including the award winning:

1. "Lonely in America": This film has been shown in 74 countries, many times on HBO, appeared in 36 film festivals and won many awards. His work has been acclaimed in international and national media (more than 500 articles worldwide) including New York Times, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Entertainment etc.

2. "Love, Lust and Marriage" : His second film, "Love, Lust and Marriage", deals with the effects of American dream and workaholics in a marriage.

3. "Little Magician 3D" and "Arya.".....so on

In addition to making his own films, Malik has line produced the US portion of many films with some of India’s biggest stars such as Rajinikanth in Sivaji, Kamal Haasan in Vettayadu Villayadu, Surya in Vaaranam Aayiram, Mammootty in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and many more. Malik also made cameo appearances with the stars in these films.

Tirlok Malik has appeared in thirty-six film festivals and has won many awards. His craft has been celebrated in international and national media.

Presently, Pioneer NRI Filmmaker Tirlok Malik has returned to India for making films on bollywood themes with blending of International flavours.

His new film Khushiyaan, which was shot in India and partly in New York, is equally innovative in its ideas and distinct personality that includes emotions, comedy, great music and songs.

The film is in Punjabi-Language and is being made for Indians, NRI’s, and an international audience.

Every family has a journey. What’s yours? Khushiyaan, the new film from New York Emmy nominated Tirlok Malik will pose this question and reflect on the experiences of so many families across the world.

“This will be a film that has a universal theme and people from all types of places and all walks of life will be able to relate to this family drama,” says Malik. “Life’s journey may be a tunnel with a light at the end, but there is also a light behind you. That’s what this film is about.”

“It’s a slice of life,” says Malik, who directed the film and produced it with Khaniya Film Production. “It’s the poetry of how we learn from our relationships.”

Malik is working with a team of award-winning consultants, two of which have been given accolades by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The film Khushiyaan stars well-known names of Punjabi Cinema: Kulbushan Kharbanda, Rama Vij, Tisca Chopra (Tare Zamin Par), Deep Dhillon, Shrey Bawa, Vivek Shauq, Sikander Sardool, Gurpreet Guggi, and many more.

Introducing Jasbir Jassi (famed singer Dil Ley Ghai Kudhi Gujarat Dee)

The music is composed by Jaidev Kumar (has many hits to his name and is called A. R. Rehman of Punjabi Music). Lyricists include Kumar (writer of many hit songs including Desi Girl, Maa Da Ladala Bigardh Gaya from film Dostana, and other songs from Om Shanti Om, and many more). There is also a Shabd sung by Shri Jagjit Singh.

Khushiyaan is now in postproduction and will soon be ready for release.
