Miss Universe 2024 will be the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, to be held in South Africa. Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown her successor at the end of the event.
Background

[edit]On 18 November 2023, during the Miss Universe 2023 pageant, Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille announced that the 73rd edition will be held in South Africa on 30 November 2024 via a video presentation.[1]
Selection of participants
[edit]In September 2023, during the Tanner Fletcher show at New York Fashion Week, Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel revealed that the Miss Universe Organization had made the decision to raise the age limit to 30, which would be implemented starting with the 2024 edition. Prior to this change, the pageant had restricted participation to women between ages 18–28 on the year of the pageant, outside of special circumstances.[a][3][4]
Debuts, returns and withdrawals
[edit]This edition will mark the debuts of Mozambique, South Sudan, and Uganda and the returns of Belize, Botswana, Ethiopia, Montenegro, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, and the US Virgin Islands. Tunisia last competed in 1971; Botswana last competed in 2013; Montenegro and Serbia last competed in 2015; Ethiopia last competed in 2017; Sri Lanka last competed in 2018; Tanzania and the US Virgin Islands last competed in 2019; Sweden last competed in 2021; while the others last competed in 2022.[5][6]
