The Kickass is a 3 piece American progressive rock band from Jacksonville/Greenville, North Carolina that started in 2000. Their releases are known for being entirely instrumental and very technical. The band comprises of drummer Bennie Powell, guitar/keys player Andy Townsend, and bass player Erick Murillo. They self-released their demo album (self-titled) in 2002, then shortly afterwards released their first full length LP Death Metal is for Pussies in 2003. Followedd directly by releasing Don't Cry for me Japan, a 3 song split CD with Continent (ex-Ladderback members) in 2004 on Satire records in Tokyo. They have signed with Bifocal Media and have toured with acts such as Valiant Thorr across the United States and Canada numerous times.
Andy townsend is also the touring guitar tech for the band "Between the Buried and Me" and "Animals as Leaders"
History
[edit]The Kickass formed in 2000 in Jacksonville, North carolina. After playing shows localy and releasing their first album, the band went on an 8 year touring hiatus and didn't tour again until the summer of 2012, where they toured the United States accompanied by Valiant Thor and a selection of other bands. The Kickass has self-released all albums but is currently signed to Bifocal media.
