Thomas 'Tom' Kiley - the assumed name of John Dempsey, born 1875 in Idaho, USA to horsewhisperer Robert Dempsey (1825 Cork, Ireland - 1909 Flathead Indian Reservation, Montana) and Bright Star/Margaret Stephens (1835 Idaho - 1888 Montana) of the Bannock-Shoshone tribe.
Tom Kiley rode the Montana-born and trained thoroughbred Spokane to win the 1889 Kentucky Derby, and also rode in the 1889 Clark Handicap and American Derby. His last known ride was in 1890 at the American Derby.
At age 14 in 1889, Kiley/Dempsey was a year younger than 15-year-olds Alonzo Clayton and James Perkins, listed as the youngest jockeys to win the Kentucky Derby.
