Background
[edit]On November 13, 2009 it was announced that Def Jam Recordings would issue a box set containing Rihanna's first three studio albums. The set was to accompany the release of her then-upcoming fourth studio album Rated R (2009).[2] The material featured in the box set was recorded from the beginning of Rihanna's career in 2005 until 2008 in various recording studios worldwide, including Roc the Mic Studios in New York City and Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles.[3] The 3 CD Collector's Set was released on December 15, 2009 in Canada, France and the United States.
The box set features the three individual albums in their original album packing, housed in a jewel case. The first disc consists of Rihanna's debut album Music of the Sun (2005), a caribbean music inspired album, that incorporates elements of soca, dancehall, reggae, as well as dance-pop and R&B.[4]
The second disc consists of Rihanna's second album A Girl like Me (2006). Musically A Girl like Me reveals new types of musical genres compared to her debut album, venturing into a more pop sound.[5]
The third disc consists of the re-release Rihanna's third album entitled Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded (2008). The album is departure from the dancehall influences prominent in Rihanna's previous releases and contains up-tempo and ballad-oriented songs, while also heavily incorporates pop and dance-pop musical styles.[6]
A double sided poster featuring photographs from the Rated R photoshoot is included in the set.
