Matthew Klassen, better known by his stage name Paradox, is an American Roman Catholic hip hop artist from Denver, Colorado. His most recent solo album with DJ Sean P, Mending, was released by Phatmass Records, but he has previously released material on War Records, End of Earth Records, Syntax Records, and Voicebox Records. Paradox performs conscious hip hop. His topics typically concern his own life experiences, religion, and politics. Paradox is currently a member of 2 hip hop collectives, dropsci.GIANTS (with reSEARCH and Common Child) and Team Omega (with Arkamedes, Man of War, Phynite, and Shortop). He was previously a member of the now-defunct group 49Stories. He is also a theologian and teacher of theology at Regis Jesuit High School.
Music career
[edit]In 2003, Paradox was a member of the hip hop group 49Stories. They released one album, entitled Blind Faith[1] on Voicebox Records. Paradox continued to work with the group, but went on to pursue a solo career in 2006 when he released his first solo album Hiatus[2] on Voicebox Records. Hiatus deals largely with his 2 years spent in Belize.
In 2009, Paradox released his second solo album Called to Mind[3] on End of Earth Records. The album received positive reviews from various hip hop websites.[4] However, unlike earlier releases, Called to Mind deals with topics from a more Christian stand point, more specifically Catholic. The album was produced entirely by Elliot B. and features guest spots from Sev Statik and Playdough of Deepspace5, Propaganda of Humble Beast, Othello of Lightheaded, and others.
In 2010, Paradox and his current group dropsci.GIANTS released their first album littleONES on End of Earth Records.[5]
On August 8, 2011, Paradox released his third solo album Mending on Phatmass Records.[6] Mending was well praised for its Christian hip hop genre with Catholic-oriented lyrics. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by DJ Sean P and features guest spots from Relic, Griffin of Tunnel Rats, Wonder Brown, MotionPlus, and JustMe of Scribbling Idiots, Freddie Bruno, Sintax.the.Terrific, and Sivion of Deepspace5, manCHILD of Mars Ill, Ruslan of theBREAX, and others.
