Monument to the Builder, Rostov-on-Don
[edit]Located at the entrance to Builders’ Park in Budennovskiy Avenue, one of the main arteries of Rostov-on-Don, the Monument to the Builder was created by the sculptor Dmitriy Lyndin together with the architect Valeriy Tarasenko as part of the “Small Forms” city program [1]. The bronze monument features a young bearded man with broad shoulders. His hair is tied with a string, he is wearing a cross on his chest and a long Slavic robe with a rope belt around his waist. The dedication at the bottom of the monument reads “To builders-creators who conquer time”. The young man is building a staircase going up into the sky. This image symbolically reflects the idea that human lives are short, but the best creations of builders and architects stand there for many decades, drifting from one century to another[2], and into eternity. The monument is enjoyed by the visitors of Builders’ Park. Young people sometimes sit on the concrete steps of the staircase, and little children do not mind climbing up on the builder’s strong shoulders. Considering such possible uses, the creators designed a strengthened square granite pedestal for the monument[2].
