Draft motion cleaning up general sanctions
[edit]Over the years, the Arbitration Committee has imposed various forms of general sanctions on articles or topics involved in cases before it. The older sanctions usually took the form of article probation, while newer sanctions are generally discretionary sanctions. In many of the cases, the sanctions are a valuable tool to administrators attempting to control disruption on those pages. However, in some cases, the sanctions fell into disuse, often because the disputes have died down with the passage of time. This motion removes those sanctions that appear to be no longer necessary to prevent disruption, and "updates" the sanctions covering several topics that may still require sanctions to discretionary sanctions.
The Committee hereby vacates the following remedies, which appear to be no longer necessary to prevent disruption:
- Remedy 1 of Lapsed Pacifist 2 (article probation on all articles related to Corrib gas controversy and the Shell to Sea campaign)
- Remedies 1 and 2 of Mantanmoreland (article probation and certain other restrictions on naked short selling, Overstock.com, Patrick M. Byrne, Gary Weiss, or any related page or discussion)
- Remedy 2 of Bluemarine (article probation on Matt Sanchez)
- Remedy 1 of Election (article probation on certain articles related to 2004 United States election voting controversies)
- Remedies 3 and 4 of Free Republic (article probation on Free Republic and Democratic Underground)
- Remedies 1 and 2 of Waterboarding (article probation and other restrictions on waterboarding and related articles)
- Remedies 6, 7 and 8 of Asmahan (discretionary article probation and sanctions on articles about Middle-Eastern persons with protracted identity disputes)
- Remedy 14 of Ayn Rand (discretionary sanctions on Ayn Rand and related articles)
- Remedy 1 of Vivaldi (Article probation on Preying from the Pulpit, First Baptist Church of Hammond, Jack Hyles, Hyles-Anderson College, and related articles)
In addition:
- Remedies 1 and 5 of Neuro-linguistic programming are hereby vacated. Editors working on articles related to neuro-linguistic programming are reminded that the topic area is subject to discretionary sanctions under remedy 14 of the Pseudoscience case.
- Remedy 3 of Brahma Kumaris (article probation on Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University) is hereby vacated. Standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all pages related to Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, broadly construed.
- Remedy 3 of Liancourt Rocks (article probation on Liancourt Rocks) is hereby vacated. Standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all pages related to Liancourt Rocks, broadly construed.
Any extant sanctions or warnings made under the above remedies remain unaffected by this motion.
