Annotated Bibliography
[edit]This book contains a very detailed explanation of the building techniques and architectural design of colonial American homes, and provides pictures and evidence of many examples of these homes throughout the text. The author of the book has no apparent stance on any topic relating to colonial architecture, other than maybe a bias in favor of the restoration and preservation of historical homes. Furthermore, the author seems to be fairly credible through his reference to actual colonial homes and photographic evidence of such homes throughout the text. However, the author does not cite any sources through the book, which makes the information’s accuracy questionable. Also, the book was edited by a professor from the University of Minnesota.[1] This adds to the credibility of the book since I do not know the credentials of the author. The Architecture of Colonial America will be useful in my research because it allows me to connect the structure and function of the Henry Whitfield House to other houses and buildings from the same time period.[1] It also allows me to examine the differences between the Henry Whitfield House and its contemporaries in order to find out what it is that makes this particular house so unique and important. The book will help me to analyze the combination of fashion and practicality in the house’s design.
