Main: Tidus Tia
[edit]- Handle: Tidus Tia
- Full Name: Tidus Neil Tia, Master Prospector
- Nick: Tidus
- Ship of Choice: YT-510 Kazunori
- Bio:
Tidus Tia considers himself a nomad. He has no place he can call home. Well, no place on the ground. Tidus was born to his parents, Thomas and Catherine Tia, on board their L-500 Starliner Valhalla. This lifestyle ended up being ingrained into his mind, moving from place to place, never setting down on the ground anywhere for more than a month. It was just the way the Tia family lived.
Thomas Tia was a hard working man. Originally born to a prominent military family, Thomas grew up with loyalty, pride, and honor instilled in him. His father was a Captain in mercenary group that was known for their efficiency and consistency. As Thomas grew up, he learned to follow in his footsteps and took pride in doing so. He even managed to rise to the rank of General and over saw fighter operations. It was about this time that he met Catherine. Catherine was a well known physician who had grown up in a secluded area of the galaxy. The two met on the hospital ship Nova after Thomas’ mercenary force has been engaged in a fierce battle with pirates. Catherine was actually on humanitarian mission, taking medical personal and supplies to a few of the systems on the Outer Rim. The Nebulon-B Frigate Nova exited hyperspace to change direction and found a war zone or at least, what was left of one. Burned-out hulks floated lifelessly in space and debris from fighters drifted away in all directions. Quickly, the Nova searched the debris fields for survivors. Surprisingly, they found a total of 29 survivors from both sides. After intensive care and rigorous interrogation, the story became clear. A group of pirates were waiting to ambush the Nova and steal the supplies and the mercenaries were actually hunting this particular group of pirates across the galaxy for another job. Unfortunately, the sector government showed up to stop both parties before the mercenaries could recover everything and everyone.
Just before the Nova entered hyper for its next stop, Thomas went to the observation level to escape the thoughts that were haunting him. Thomas had always wanted a family and after the battle today, all those thoughts and dreams came rushing back to him. As he entered the observation deck, he saw a beautiful woman standing before the large viewing window. He stopped mid-stride as she turned to face him and the ship jumped into hyper. The two spent all their time together talking and getting to know each other. A year or two later, they finally got married. Both of them wanted to start a family and retired. Thomas and Catherine both had enough in their life savings and retirement plans to purchase a L-500 and travel the galaxy.
A year later, Tidus was born. His child hood was spent wandering the halls of the Valhalla, which was named after an ancient belief system his father held closely. His first words were spoken on the bridge; his first steps were taken in the docking bay. Tidus lived his life breathing the recycled air. Only every so often did his parents go planet side. Those were rare treats for Tidus. Every place he stopped he was fascinated, to no end. Thus it was no surprise he did well in geography and political sciences. Learning about the planets and governments of each one was always interesting to him. Of course, that wasn’t the only thing that captivated Tidus’ imagination. Thomas, Tidus’ father, regaled Tidus with stories of combat. Tidus would spend hour after hour with his father in the study watching holo vids of battles and listening to his father’s commentary. Every year for his birthday, instead of toys, Tidus would ask for data streams and data cards filled with specification of star fighters, freighters, capital ships, vehicles, and anything else that moved. It wasn’t long in coming that Tidus’ interest in history took over. He wanted to know more about how these machines were used and why. The more he learned, the more he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. At the age of twelve, his father began teaching him the basic principles of combat, both in the cockpit and on the ground. Much like his father though, Tidus didn’t hold much in the area of weight. He was pretty scrawny and unable to do serious damage to his trainers. He learned and mastered the techniques but lacked the physical strength to do anything. On top of that, he just didn’t like it. He felt it was more of a necessity than anything else. The skills Tidus possessed were with a rifle or in a cockpit.
As the years passed, Tidus grew up with the high hopes of being accepted at any of the major military academies. His plan was to receive exceptional training and then start his own mercenary group. At the age of twenty-three, two months before he was to send out applications, his plans changed. On one of his rare planet side excursions, his father planned a comprehensive training simulation. While on the ground, Tidus would learn what it was like in a ground battle. They would use stun weapons instead of live fire and the goal was to see if everything Tidus had been taught was actually learned. The goal was to lead a small force against a larger force and recapture a facility. Tidus completed the simulation and made his father proud. Everyone’s expectations and hopes were met as Tidus walked off the field of battle. He returned from the simulation only to be tossed into the real thing.
Tidus walked into the starport that his father had rented for the sole use by the Tia family and their employees only to step into a raging battle. Everywhere he looked, family and friends were falling. Slowly he pushed rage to the back of his mind and remembered his training. This was the real thing. Looking around, Tidus took control of the situation. Using the men he just led in training, he managed to take control of the starport. As he made it to the main hangar, where his personal fighter and family shuttle were located, he found his father lying propped up against the shuttle. Flames crackled all around the landing pad and fuel was leaking from the damaged shuttle. Tidus rushed to his father’s side and found a blaster wound in his abdomen. As Tidus pulled his father closed, his father coughed blood and managed to say a few words.
“Make the best of your life… don’t waste it…. find what is most important to you, and pursue it…”
After that Thomas slumped over and relinquished his spirit. Tidus stood up and looked around. The only surviving attacked was brought into the landing pad and Tidus had to literally bite his lip to keep from flying into a blind rage and killing the man. Instead, he took pleasure in torturing the man to get information. As it turned out, the reason his father was attacked was because the government in sector placed a bounty on his family well before Tidus was born. They never expected the Tia family to show up in system ever again, when they did though, they were ordered to kill the family. Tidus took a pistol and shot the man in the forehead and climbed into his fighter. If they attacked his father on the ground, Tidus had to find out the fate of his mother. As he climbed through the atmosphere, his thoughts went to his mother. Unfortunately, none of them were hopeful or comforting. As he broke through the atmosphere, his worst fears were brought to life. The lifeless shell of the L-500 Valhalla was drifting apart. Flames sprouted from all sections of the ship and escape pods launched when and where they could. The government was not in a merciful mood though, as the escape pods fired, the Bayonet cruisers carefully and methodically eliminated each one. As Tidus drew closer to the battle, the Valhalla erupted a ball of flame and split in half. With a vulgar expletive, Tidus punched in a set of hyper coordinates and took off.
Few months later, Tidus contacted an attorney and made arrangements to deal with his parents will and collect his inheritance. Tidus walked into the office a poor man, without a future and walked out a very wealthy man. It turns out his parents were saving for his future, mainly his militaristic dreams. Along with the credit account numbers and passwords, his parents left him a data card and a data pad with a message only for his eyes. When he got back to his fighter, Tidus brought up the message.
“Tidus,
I know our death is going to be hard on you but your mother and I want you to know that we love you. Nothing in this universe makes us happier than knowing you have a bright future ahead of you. For your inheritance, we are leaving you a majority of our financial wealth as well as many of our assets. The rest will be given to the families of those who served us faithfully. Please, use the money to follow your dreams. There is enough to pay the tuition at whatever academy you want to attend and then upon graduation, enough to furnish a small task force.
We hope for the best. We love you.
Your loving Father”
Tidus sat in the cockpit staring at the message for hours. Then he finally brought himself to start the ignition sequence and leave. As his ship left atmosphere, Tidus resolved to not follow his father’s life. It was apparent to him now why his father never settled down anywhere. He made so many enemies during his time as a General. That was not a life he wanted. He brought up the coordinates of a few planets and took off for the one that held the most promise in his eyes. Upon arrival he contacted a local business man and began investing the money he had in real estate and other profitable businesses, thus forming the Polyphony Holographic Corporation.
Polyphony Holographic had a rough and shaky start. Tidus was a very intelligent man, but didn’t have a detailed knowledge of any aspect of business. He was raised a soldier. To solve this problem, Tidus surrounded himself with the best in whatever business field his corporation ventured into. In no time, his hotel chain took off. The Gaylord chain of hotels was viewed by a majority of beings across the galaxy as the premiere hotel chain, usually rating the highest on all of the critique lists. Then there is the successful chain of taverns, bars, clubs, and restaurants spread through out the many star systems. It seemed that everything that Polyphony Holographic touched turned to credits. With his bank accounts over flowing, Tidus felt unhappy. As he progressed in age, he wasted his money on gambling, on frivolous toys, and anything else he thought would bring him joy. Sadly, nothing did. All he did was sit in a chair, sign documents, and collect money. Not until he decided to step down as leader of Polyphony Holographic and pursue something else, did he feel like he was on the right path. Unsure of what he would do with the rest of his life, he took off for the Moddell Sector. There he ran into a group of individuals who were in the wrecking and salvaging business. He began talking to the leader at the time, Arianna Kahlil, and decided to join them in their work. He enjoyed destroying buildings and turning them into something useful again.
Before too long, an opening appeared in the prospecting division. Tidus put in for a transfer and found his calling. It was something he enjoyed doing. He got to go to various planets ranging from the most exotic to the dullest planets around. He didn’t mind sitting in the cockpit of various prospecting vehicles, so long as he could watch the natural beauty of the planet. A few months later, the leadership wanted to show Tidus how proud they were of his hard work and promoted him to the head of the prospecting division and gave him the title of Master Prospector.
No one understands why Tidus stepped down from leading one of the wealthiest corporations in the galaxy only to become a simple division leader. When questioned, he merely responds that he didn’t enjoy it. Plus, he still collects pay checks.
Tidus then took a job serving Black Dust Industries in many ways as Head of the Prospecting Division and enjoying his life. He still holds an interest in military machines and history, but does not wish to fight. In fact, he has declared himself neutral to any and all conflicts. His only dream in life is to purchase a Modular Star Hauler and collect a small fleet of decommissioned fighters for a museum he wishes to open. Until that day, when he can cut the ribbon on the door way, he will continue to be loyal to Black Dust Industries and provide them with high quality work.
Tidus continues to believe in his father's religion and hopes to one day spread the word. He believes warriors who die on the field of battle will be taken to Valhalla where they will then train for the final battle. Those who don't will be taken to Hel and will forever know that they are not worthy of the riches. Tidus has resigned himself to the fact he will probably never go to Valhalla, but he will help those who are destined to prepare for the final battle.
