UFO's: A Scientific Debate made its first appearance in 1972, and was a publication follow-up to a scientific colloqium conducted under the auspices of The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The book served as a collection of the papers presented at the AAAS conference held on the subject in 1969 by various authors, including Roach. The papers were further supplemented or revised before publication and certain post-conference discussions or comments were incorporated into the volume. The overall editing of the volume was handled by the astronomer Carl Sagan and Thornton W. Page. The book has been printed several times by various publishers.
