Dance Uptown was a semiannual dance series located at Barnard College of Columbia University that occurred between 1967 and .[1] This series lead to the eventual creation of the Barnard College Dance Department in 1986.[1] Created by Barnard English professor Kenneth Janes and senior dance associate Janet Soares,[2] . Pieces ranged from faculty work to the preview of the Twyla Tharp work, Jam, with Sara Rudner.[3] Some of the choreographers throughout the series' history include Art Bauman,[4] Sara Rudner,[5] Hannah Kahn
