The Levantine Commune, officially the Levantine Commune of Jews and Arabs or the Socialist Commune of the Levant was a country that existed following the 1947-1948 Mandatory Palestine civil war until the Levantine National Schism in 1974. The country was a successor state to the British Mandate of Palestine; it was a federal union of three semi-autonomous republics, the largest of which being the Israeli Commune, followed by the Palestinian Commune and the Jerusalem Special Administrative Zone. It was a one-party state with only members of the Levantine Socialist Party allowed to hold office, with the exception of some independents.

The country was founded after a successful communist revolution in Mandatory Palestine. The revolution established the Socialist Republic of Palestine as a transitional unitary government until the subsequent civil war concluded at which point delegates of both Palestinian and Jewish ethnicities met in Jerusalem and drafted a new constitution, establishing the Levantine Commune of Jews and Arabs, dividing the land between separate Israeli and Palestinian authorities and establishing directorial rule with two presidents of the Levantine Commune and one president of both the Israeli and Palestinian federal subdivisions.

Following the drafting of the first constitution, the Levantine Commune aligned itself with the Soviet Union and opened cordial relations with the United States. In 1952, the government began social reforms, allowing more religious and political freedom, deciding to reform into a socialist economic system. Additionally, the Israeli and Palestinian Communes were granted more autonomy and the ability to form their own laws with approval from the Levantine Congress.

In 1965, following the election of several nationalists to high political positions both the Israeli and Palestinian Communes, protests broke out in Jerusalem, leading to the 1965 Jerusalem riots. In response, the federal government began cracking down on nationalism, with the Israeli president Jerad Pakialov being deposed by executive order in 1970.

Following rising tensions and Israeli nationalism, in 1973, a group of Israeli politicians formed the Israeli Freedom Council and attempted a coup of the Israeli Commune and the Levantine Commune government with the intention of securing Israeli independence. The coup failed, but led to sweeping reforms in the Levantine Commune. The Israeli and Levantine Communes were allowed much more autonomy, allowing them to act almost as independent nations. In 1974, they were allowed to have their own guard militias of only 10,000 soldiers.

In late 1974, the government of the Israeli Commune formally declared their secession from the Levantine Commune, with the Palestinian Commune seceding two days later, beginning the Levantine National Schism. After a month-long standoff, the Levantine Congress formally dissolved the Levantine Commune, beginning the 1975 Levant War.
