Mexican Cut Natural Area is a designated Colorado Natural Area located in the Elk Mountains in Gunnison County. Designated in 1978 as the first state Natural Area, the 420 acre site contains a hanging valley of alternating layers of limestone and quartzite which have been worn down by the movement of glaciers into a series of shelves, each of which contains a series of small, often interconnected ponds.
