What is a sufficient amount of notability for open source software?
- Have their own Wikipedia entry that has withstood the deletionists means OK. ;-)
Other criteria might include:
- Own URL
- Permanent mention on a home page
- Watched by Alexa Internet, Quantcast or Compete
- Worked on by a team of developers - no single developer makes over 50% of the commits.
- Source code on GitHub, Source Forge etc and well-watched and forked
- Reviewed by more than one journal
- Posted on Reddit/Digg/Hacker News/
- Dedicated mailing list/Google Group/Forum
- The outcome of a public or private grant
- The outcome of an academic thesis or dissertation
- The outcome of a humanitarian effort
- Indexed in a textbook
- Of sufficient complexity or beauty
- Used as an example in peer-reviewed academic paper
- Won a prize or award
- Has bug-tracking and issue resolution
- Has Documentation, FAQ and support
- Retains older versions, maintains a history of revisions, records
- Has a public infrastructure that decides, manages, road maps, has project management
- Open accounts, workable business model
- Road map, manifesto
- Elegant programming style
- Nice license
