Sourcing questions
Sorry for not replying yet. I have been unable to find a source with regards to the regunning of Nevada. I will continue to look but I cannot promise anything. As for the engine situation with Oklahoma, I know I have the source laying around somewhere, but I have yet to dig it up yet, so I can only as for patience on that regard. -MBK004 19:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

That's what I get for hiding behind a pseudonym. ;D If Blair's right (& I think he is), it can't be Kirishima, which is a BB. I suspect the website is relying on Brockman's original (wrong) ID, from DANFS (probably), which is unreliable itself. I'm hoping there's a more reliable source that confirms/refutes Blair. I don't have Morison's 15v at hand (in storage...), but I'm going to look in the next day or so. If you can get it online somewhere, or you've got something handy that serves... These support her shooting at a BB: this, this and this. He did misidentify destroyers as cruisers later...this book supports you...ugh. Maybe you should put both in the article? ("It is disputed...") Also, the sources seem to not agree on whether Nagara was a heavy or light cruiser...(from what I saw) -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 00:35, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Brockman misidentifying wasn't a rare case, it was pretty common early in the war. (It wasn't helped by Yubari resembling a destroyer.) This is Roscoe's official history, written soon after the war & based on patrol reports entirely (AFAIK), so it's no better than Brockman. (It's a useful source, but IMO Blair supercedes it.) Midway: Dauntless Victory looks interesting (but, Saratoga?!). This is no good, either; it credits loss of Soryu to Nautilus, which Blair has disproven. (Roscoe is out of date, is all.) Sea Battles in Close-up I put an interlibrary loan for, on the off-chance, but it'll be awhile. If Kirishima really was the target, I have to think Blair would've mentioned it; an attack on a battleship on the high seas was big for a sub. Bicheno is confirmed by Blair, but he's not saying anything else AFAI can tell; it bears getting, too. Thanks for looking, anyhow. TREKphilerhit me ♠ 02:41, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Me Cheeta: the Autobiography, written by a ghostwriter, is the autobiography of Cheeta the Chimp who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest recorded non-human primate at the age of 76. The book is not published until October 1, but judges for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award were sent a early version and were so impressed that they have included it on the 10-strong longlist.

Current debates
Categories for Discussion has a series of discussions about whether to categorize certain specific types of fictional characters: double agents, dictators, characters with eidetic memory, etc. Advice from any Novels project members would be valuable in assisting them.
WikiProject Media franchises aims to help editors with the coordination of articles within the thousands of media franchises which exist and has requested input from our members. They are currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Since this may affect one or more articles in our Novel project, they would like to get opinions before implimenting any changes.
With the Newsletter being almost three months overdue, I have decided to take on the position of Editor to make sure it reaches you regularly on time each month. The Newsletter is meant to inspire and encourage our team of Editors and so my goal shall be to make it informative and interesting each issue.
We now have many positions vacant in our Project Team, so we are looking for members who have the time and interest to take on the various roles, details of which can be found at the Job Centre. Shortly a Coordinator nominations notice shall also be sent out to all members, which will commence the annual Coordinator selection process.

Triton
Please review the latest comments from dana boomer regarding the GA review of the USS Triton (SSRN-586). I find them troublesome, problematic, almost bait-and-switch, in light of the effort that I have put into upgrading the USS Triton article which was, prior to my involvement, was little more than a cut-and-paste job from the Dictionary of American Navy Fighting Ships (DANFS), but was still rated as a "B-class" article. I am troubled about the negativity regarding the USS Triton message board since they are posted by former crew members who know their ship. I certainly would not have known that the reason why Triton had not been scrapped until 2007 was because of the configuration of its reactor compartment, and this is not something that would be readily available elsewhere. Regarding the Yahoo post, the poster was Tim Tyler who had an extensive web site of the NECPA program, including information about Triton. Tyler's site has been down since 2001, and his post does include a copyright notice. As someone who has a degree in history, is a senior technical writer who has worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division, Lockheed Martin, Nortel Networks, General Electric, UPS, IMB, etc., and has spent the better part of a decade researching the Triton circumnavigation for a possible screenplay, I know this subject and feel that the cre of the Triton deserve some recognition for their achievement. Sorry to vent, but you seem receptive.

Hmmm. Well, I don't think that it was actually a B-class article before—someone might have rated it as such, but in reality, it wasn't. The message board is prohibited simply because it is a message board...it says that they aren't allowed somewhere in the MoS. (can't finish my reply--leaving now!! (see below))

"Message boards" are disallowed somewhere by default, though I forget where. The reasn is that anyone can post there, I believe. Are there any other sources for those refs anywhere? As for Tyler's site, try looking for it in a web archive such as the Internet Archive. Were there any interviews anywhere in newspaper from way back when. Like these articles?

P.S. Yes, it would have been—but what she meant is that one-paragraph sentences are bad...in my view, it should be a three-sentence minimum, unless the information in it is completely different from the preceeding and subsequent paragrahs... Don't worry so much about paragraph length though. The refs are a more serious matter. =)
