Question regarding USS Nevada

I was looking over USS Nevada (BB-36) and was curious about the one-and-two-word phrases in quotes scattered throughout the Southern France and Iwo Jima section. I'm sure (or surely hoping, at least) that these are used to indicate quoted opinions/adjectives, but is there, perhaps, a better way to incorporate them so as not to look so much like scare quotes? Maybe I'm just too cynical for my own good, but when I see something like "… that had four "formidable" 340-millimetre (13.4 in) guns…" it gives me pause to wonder if they were really formidable, or really not. — Bellhalla (talk) 16:24, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey, and if you really want to get involved with PR's again, and you happen to like military even a bit, try getting involved with the PR's or A-class reviews at WP:MHR. Ah! I'd recommend being extra cautious as you start out. "No assertion of notability" does not fit when the article makes claims of importance such as those above. And...not reading all of an article before tagging it is likely to get you eaten alive by ill-humoured passersby like myself ;) Thanks for trying to help out it this area; you could check out the essay User:Balloonman/Why I hate Speedy Deleters for some context and tips. An article can say that the subject is notable, but the article has to prove it, as well. I haven't looked at the article in question, but saying "he's the greatest painter" isn't enough to prove notability on its own. –Juliancolton ^Tropical ^Cyclone 18:17, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

To Ed, no worries and good luck :) To Julian; no the article does not need to prove its subject is notable to avoid A7 (I'm surprised an admin would think so). WP:A7 applies to "an article that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant". The above quotes certainly indicate why Shoshi is important - he is a big-deal painter apparently. 14"/4550 caliber gun

OK, I've added some info to the article, but I haven't done a very neat job. No sections, no proper refs, no nothing. There's a lot of cleanup to be done. As it is now, the character length is above 2000, but I don't even know if what I have added is correct or not. Sorry about this, but my PC broke down this morning (I know I'm cursed; whenever I need something, it's not there) and I'm editing with an ancient laptop. Anyway, I don't think I have done enough to get credit for the DYK. The watchlist can get big in a hurry, but some of the things I watch came about via an admin tool (Special:Unwatchedpages) that allows us to see those pages which are not watched by anybody. As for the help, yes I am glad. I've blown my edit count out of the water with regards to the amount of work I put into USS Texas which was my highest-count article.
