Biography
[edit]Ancestry
[edit]Yefremov's father, Antip Kharitonovich, was born in 1861 in Makaryevskiy Uyezd of Nizhny Novgorod Governorate into a family of Old Believers.[1] In 1882, he was conscripted and sent to serve in the Semyonovsky Regiment in Saint Petersburg, where he was eventually promoted to a non-commissioned officer. After 16 years of service, he retired and was granted the position of a collegiate registrar, the lowest class in the Russian Table of Ranks.[2] Soon thereafter, Antip Kharitonovich moved to Vyritsa, where he built a house and rented a saw mill on the Oredezh River from the local landowner. With the construction boom in Saint Petersburg and the opening of a railway line to Vyritsa, this quickly proved to be a very profitable enterprise, which facilitated Antip Kharitonovich's acceptance into the Merchant Guild.
