Mahbubur Rahman (1 February 1920 – 23 February 1993) was a prominent Bangladeshi civil servant and educationalist, known for his role as the Former Establishment Secretary of Bangladesh.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Mahbubur Rahman was born in Sabranta Balusair Bhuiyan, Narsingdi district, as the eldest son of Abdus Samad Bhuiyan (1880–1973). He exhibited strong academic abilities from an early age, consistently achieving high marks in his studies. He passed the entrance examination in 1935 and attended Dhaka Salimulla College, later enrolling in the English Honors program at Dhaka University, where he earned his master's degree in 1942 with first-class honors.
Career
[edit]Rahman began his career as a lecturer in English at Dhaka College and Eden College from 1943 to mid-1944. He passed the Bengal Civil Service Examination in 1944 and joined the government as Deputy Magistrate in Mymensingh Sadar on 11 August 1945. Over the years, he served in various roles, including S.D.O in Rangamati and Under Secretary in the Establishment Division in Karachi. After returning to East Pakistan in 1957, he held multiple positions, including District Commissioner in Noakhali and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture. He was known for his efforts in public administration and reforming educational policies.
Later Life
[edit]In 1972, Rahman became Commissioner of Dhaka Division with the rank of Secretary, later serving as Consolidation Secretary until his retirement in 1975. He was recognized for his integrity and commitment to public service and education, founding Balusair High School on 17th January 1977, and a local mosque. Mahbubur Rahman passed away on 23 February 1993, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to public service and community development.
