There are good memes that gather strength rather slowly, by their virtue of being more informative, accurate, or precise than previous formulations, thus slowly displacing otherwise worthy ideas; ideas which suffer only by comparison to a better alternative. Then there are the bad memes which instantly become popular with a special interest group or partisan empire, because they further the interests of this group in an effective way -- as political weapons.
