Ring vaccination is a focused and rapid disease containment strategy used to observe and contain a specific disease in a population.
Methodology
[edit]Surveillance involves the continuous monitoring of all new, and existing cases of a disease in a region. A communications network, such as telecommunications network, are typically used for this process, as they provide immediate and simple transmission of information from one region to another.
Containment begins when the surveillance operation detects an outbreak of the disease. Confirmation and treatment of the outbreak is first performed. A circular perimeter is setup around the position of the outbreak. Vaccination begins at the edge and moves inward until all of the people within the are vaccinated.
