Background

[edit]

Pierce County has had a charter form of government since 1980.

In 2006, voters approved a charter amendment,[2] recommended by the Charter Review Commission. [3] It affected the offices of Councilmember, Sheriff, Assessor-Treasurer, Auditor, and Executive. The effect of the amendment to Article 4 of the charter was to implement Ranked Choice Voting, called "Instant Runoff Voting" [4]. This[which?] political action committee was one of the groups active in adopting this method, to replace the "Pick-a-Party" primary that had been implemented by the state legislature in 20??? in place of the long-standing Blanket Primary, thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court in 20?? in the case ???. {[fact}}
