Model

The Automation Pyramid represents different layers in the enterprise hierarchy. There are many variations of the Automation Pyramid (see https://tuprints.ulb.tu-darmstadt.de/6298/1/2017%20-%20Die%20Automatisierungspyramide%20-%20Ein%20Literatur%c3%bcberblick-2.pdf).

The pyramid form represents the aggregation and reduction of data coming from the production process as it traverses to the upper hierarchy levels of the enterprise. - At levels close to the production process there is many data, which is increasingly aggregated, until the enterprise top receives only a summary of the information.

History and Origin

[edit]

The Automation Pyramid has been used as a model since the 1980 in the German-speaking countries. (see https://www.google.de/books/edition/%C3%96ZE_%C3%96sterreichische_Zeitschrift_f%C3%BCr_E/Rr0pAQAAMAAJ?hl=de&gbpv=0&bsq=Automatisierungspyramide)

The origin is not clear.

The model has been treated as 'common knowledge'..
