The 2023 MotoAmerica Championship was the 9th season of the MotoAmerica Championship.[1]
Classes
[edit]Superbike
[edit]MotoAmerica's premier race class, Medallia Superbike showcases America’s and some of the world’s best motorcycle road racers aboard high-horsepower, highly modified, production-based liter-class motorcycles that are capable of speeds approaching 200 miles per hour.[2] Engine configurations and minimum weight requirements are listed below:
- Over 750cc up to 1000cc, 4-stroke, 3- and 4-cylinder
- Over 850cc up to 1200cc, 4-stroke, 2-cylinder
- 220 hp (160 kW)
- 370.5 lb (168.1 kg)
- Models: BMW S1000RR, Ducati Panigale V4 R, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Suzuki GSX-R1000R, Yamaha YZF-R1
Supersport
[edit]MotoAmerica’s middleweight race class, Supersport features the series’ rising stars competing aboard production-based motorcycles that are slightly less powerful than Superbikes, but are no less exciting to watch.[2] Engine configurations and minimum weight requirements are listed below:
- Over 400cc up to 600cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder
- Over 500cc up to 675cc, 4-stroke, 3-cylinder
- Over 600cc up to 750cc, 4-stroke, 2-cylinder
- 130 hp (97 kW)
- 354.9 lb (161.0 kg)
- Models: Ducati Panigale V2, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, MV Agusta F3 RR, Suzuki GSX-R750, Yamaha YZF-R6
Junior Cup
[edit]MotoAmerica’s entry-level race class, Junior Cup is one of the first steps that young motorcycle riders take in pursuing their professional road racing careers. Competing aboard smaller-displacement, production-based motorcycles, these racers serve up some of MotoAmerica’s most compelling battles.[2] Engine configurations requirements are listed below:
- Over 300cc up to 500cc, 4-stroke, 1- or 2-cylinder
- 50 hp (37 kW)
- Kawasaki Ninja 400 & Yamaha YZF-R3: 302 lb (137 kg)
- KTM RC 390 R: 293.2 lb (133.0 kg)
- Models: KTM RC 390 R, Kawasaki Ninja 400, Yamaha YZF-R3
Stock 1000
[edit]A direct feeder class for Medallia Superbike, Steel Commander Stock 1000 gives MotoAmerica riders the opportunity to gain experience aboard 1000cc production-based motorcycles as they hone their skills with an eye towards moving up to Superbike.[2] Engine configurations requirements are listed below:
- Over 750cc up to 1000cc, 4-stroke, 3- and 4-cylinder
- Over 850cc up to 1200cc, 4-stroke, 2-cylinder
- 195 hp (145 kW)
- 374 lb (170 kg)
- Models: BMW M1000RR, BMW S1000RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Yamaha YZF-R1, Yamaha YZF-R1M
Twins
[edit]Putting lighter-weight, twin-cylinder motorcycles in the spotlight, Twins Cup is a rapidly evolving race class that initially enabled regional and club racers from around the country to step up to the MotoAmerica series and compete on a national level.[2] Engine configurations requirements are listed below:
- Over 600cc up to 800cc, 4-stroke, 2-cylinder
- 100 hp (75 kW)
- 338 lb (153 kg)
- Models: Aprilia RS 660, Yamaha FZ-07/MT-07, Yamaha YZF-R7
King of the Baggers
[edit]What started as a novel idea has become one of MotoAmerica’s most popular and fastest-growing race classes. Touring motorcycles from Harley-Davidson and Indian form the basis for Mission King Of The Baggers, but these motorcycles are far from gentle cruisers.[2] Motorcycle specifications are listed below:
- Models: Harley-Davidson Road Glide, Indian Challenger
- 620 lb (280 kg) minimum
