[edit]Frederic Morris Loomis was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on April 12, 1877. In 1894 he began medical training at University of Michigan, but interrupted his studies to join the 32nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry and fight as a Sergeant in the Spanish-American War.
After the war, he became a gold miner in Alaska and then editor of the Ketchikan Daily Miner until 1908. He returned to the University of Michigan and earned his A.B. degree in 1909 and a medical degree in 1912. He served on the U. Michigan faculty as an instructor in anatomy from 1910 to 1911, and in ob/gyn from 1912 to 1916.
In 1917 he moved to Oakland, California and conducted a practice in ob/gyn until his retirement in 1938, having delivered approximately 6,000 babies.
Dr. Loomis published his first book, "Consultation Room," in 1939. In 1942, he published his second book, "The Bond Between Us." One chapter in this book, "In A Chinese Garden," was published separately. Loomis's books discuss issues of physician-patient relationships and his philosophical views of the practice of medicine as illustrated in his own professional experiences.
