User:Teratix/Tasmania name analysis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Proposed methodology

[edit]
  • Collate list of independent reliable sources to be considered in analysis. Anticipate this will include general Australian media (e.g. ABC News), sports-focused sources (e.g. AFL.com.au), Tasmanian sources (e.g. The Mercury). No user-generated sources to be considered (not reliable). No first-party sources to be considered (not independent). Opportunity for opposers to propose additions or removals before analysis is conducted.
  • Paywalled sources not necessarily excluded. Full text to be obtained if possible. If impractical, may be considered on a limited basis (e.g. headlines, first paragraphs) but note difficulty in considering full information.
  • For each source, collate list of links discussing or mentioning the club. Do not consider articles written before Devils moniker was announced (18 March 2024, articles written on the day only included if published after announcement).
  • Only the specific case-sensitive strings "Tasmania Devils" and "Tasmania Football Club" will be considered in analysis. e.g. "the Devils" does not count as a TD mention, "Tasmania's football club" does not count as a TFC mention, and so on. String must refer to the future AFL club: "Tasmania Devils" in reference to e.g. the former VFL team would not count.
  • For clarity: articles that somehow discuss the club without using either name don't count.
  • If an article is syndicated among multiple sources, only one incidence is counted.
  • Only article text to be considered in analysis. Headlines count. Video doesn't count – time-consuming to watch long videos, difficulty establishing intended capitalisation, interviews delivered verbatim without editing for source's preferred terminology. Text in images doesn't count (e.g. a photo of a jumper with "Tasmania Devils" on it doesn't count as a TD mention). No feedback on whether on not to include captions, so for the avoidance of doubt they will not be included.
  • If source is quoting someone else's statement, evaluate whether quote comes from independent source before counting.
  • Tally mentions of TD and TFC. For each source, note which name is preferred. Note any anomalies or distinctions.
  • Tally overall mentions of TD and TFC.
  • Evaluate overall COMMONNAME based on information collected.
