Colin H. Cosell is a Grandson of famed sportscaster Howard Cosell. Colin is an established stand-up comedian, radio personality, actor, singer, voice-over artist and sports broadcaster/analyst/blogger. Growing up, Colin watched and admired his Grandfather and his line of work. At age 5, Colin witnessed a life-changing event: Seeing his Grandfather do his radio broadcast. Howard had a live wire to ABC Radio a mere 15 feet away from his bed. Colin’s Grandmother, Mary-Edith Cosell, would wake him up at 5:30am to sit on his Grandfather’s lap and take part in the recording of his “Speaking of Everything” segment. This would spark the fire within Colin to carry on the Cosell legacy.
Early Career
[edit]
Because sports-broadcasting wasn’t readily available throughout his early schooling, Colin tackled every possible aspect of entertainment. Be it musical theater, stand-up comedy, anchoring news radio or as a voice-over artist, Colin has taken on and succeeded at every task he has set for himself. Having starred in or been a principle member of dozens of casts, he has managed to captivate every audience he has performed before. As a radio DJ and news anchor, Colin not only got people to listen but made them return to see what he would say next…much like Howard. Colin got his first break in radio at age 19 with 92.1 WLNG, an oldies station based out of Sag Harbor. The late Paul Sidney promised Colin his first break in radio at the age of 6. A man of his word, Sidney gave Colin an internship at the station that turned into a Summer-break full-time job as a DJ. Once late-night DJ Chuck Mackin fell ill, Cosell was given the “Nightwatch With Chuck Mackin” show 6 nights from midnight to 5:30am for 2 months. As a DJ Cosell bolstered Mackin’s ratings, received the most fanmail and established himself as a true, albeit young, broadcaster. By age 20, Colin worked as an intern with the Talent Department at Saturday Night Live. His crowning moment was his suggestion to have The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) as the host while having AC/DC as the music guest. That particular show ended up being the highest-rated show of the season. After graduating college, Colin established himself as a stand-up comic and voice-over artist. He has performed with such comics as Chris Rock, Jim Gaffigan, Jay Leno, Jim Norton, Dave Attell and Lisa Lampanelli. Having learned from Stuart Dillon about the voice-over and acting industry, he took it upon himself to create his own persona apart from the Cosell legacy. Many jobs in radio, TV and voice-overs later, Colin realized that he was staving off his own destiny as Howard’s successor. “I never felt like I could ever fill the shoes of the most impersonated, noteworthy announcer in sports broadcast history. Now I feel like it’s time to keep the legacy alive. My lexicon isn’t too shabby, but it pales in comparison to a law-trained wordsmith like my Grandfather”, says Colin.
Acting
[edit]
Colin has performed in over 100 dramatic and musical theater productions. His most noteworthy roles include Sky Masterson in “Guys and Dolls”, Joseph in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (x3), Tony in “West Side Story”, Uncle Sid in Eugene O’Neil’s “Ah, Wilderness”, Anthony in “Sweeney Todd” and received a standing ovation for his rendition of “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat” while playing the role of Nicely Nicely Johnson in “Guys and Dolls”. Colin has also done an inordinate amount of extra work for MTV, NBC, ESPN and VH1.
Voice-Over
[edit]
Colin was the primary voice-over artist for the Children’s Defense Fund featuring Adam Pascal, as well as the Independent Film Channel’s network production of the Gotham Awards. Colin also did the voice-over for the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame’s induction of Chuck Howard.
Radio
[edit]
Colin was an acclaimed fill-in DJ for the “Nightwatch With Chuck Mackin” show on 92.1 WLNG in New York. He has excelled as an anchor/reporter for 1400 WSTC/1350 WNLK in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Colin can also be heard monthly on the “Chaz & AJ in the Morning” program on 99.1 WPLR as a sports analyst and featured guest. STAND-UP COMEDY Colin has performed at numerous clubs throughout the east coast, but can be seen more often than not within the greater New York City area. He has performed with some of the greatest comedians, including Chris Rock and Jay Leno. Colin also produces his own highly successful shows in Westchester County, NY.
