Welcome to my very basic page!
[edit]In my day job, I am a biologist studying the evolution of geographic range in woody plants (trees and especially shrubs), which is the focus of my PhD work. I have also professionally done research in the past on subjects such as hybridisation and leaf shape adaptations. I also have some graduate-level experience in linguistics, focusing on shifts in word meaning (lexical semantics). I also have a major "hobby topic" within biology: parasitic fungi, on which I am currently writing field guides -- they are highly important but often overlooked or forgotten!
I have edited Wikipedia for nearly 15 years, but only sporadically. Most of my older improvements focused on extinct birds and the plants of North America, and were not under this current username. I look forward to continuing to help the world's largest free encyclopedia make progress with exciting articles about the wide world of living creatures!
