Biography
He is the son of the screenwriter and writer Raymond Assayas aka Jacques Remy and the brother of director Olivier Assayas.
A former student of the Ecole Normale Superieure de Fontenay-Saint-Cloud, he worked in the early 80's for Rock & Folk where he ardently defended some post-punk bands like Joy Division and New Order in 1981 [2] and 1983 [3]. Assayas also worked for Liberation. He was also a columnist in the first version of the magazine Les Inrockuptibles and wrote for VSD, 7 à Paris, Actuel, Le Monde de la musique. He acted as editor of the Dictionary of rock (3 volumes, 2650 pages) published in 2000 by Editions Robert Laffont, and was for some time an editor for Bernard Lenoir on France Inter. A longtime friend of the singer Bono of U2, he finally convinced him to write a book based on his interviews published in 2005. From September 2008 to June 2012, he hosted a weekly show on Sunday at 22 pm on the history of rock, Subjective 21, on France Musique [4].
