Marco Muzzo

[edit]

Marco Muzzo, a 29 year old male, is amongst one of the richest families in all of Canada. He resides in Woodbridge, Ontario. Marco inherited Marel Contractors which is located outside of Concord, Ontario. His company employs 3500 workers and has obtained a strong reputation of providing excellence in its field. Marco Muzzo is known for all the tremendous things he does around the city to help out. The Muzzo name is recognized throughout every hospital in Toronto as the family has contributed millions to fund specialty treatment facilities, particularly at Toronto General Hospital. Muzzo, was planning on getting married to his fiancé within the month of October 2015. However, due to a tragic car accident, the plans were diminished[1].

The Crime

[edit]

Just after 4 p.m. on September 27, 2015 Marco Muzzo was involved in a car accident. He was going twice the speed limit posted in the area, and was drunk after he reportedly came back from a Bachelor party. Marco was scheduled to have his wedding in mid-October. Thus, he had spent the weekend partying in Vegas and returned back home on September 27 in his private jet[2]. As soon as he got off the jet, he went over to his friend’s house and continued to party. He then departed the party in his Jeep Cherokee SRT8 while drunk. Police sources confirmed that Marco was almost double the legal alcohol limit and ran a stop sign before entering into the intersection and colliding with another vehicle. The 29 year old Muzzo faces 18 charges including four counts of impaired driving causing death due to the horrific crash. To make matters worse, Muzzo has a questionable history with provincial offences, “The Star confirmed that Muzzo paid a fine in February 2012 for being intoxicated in a public place in Richmond Hill and paid another ticket for a speeding offence in August 2013 in Newmarket”[3]

The victims include Daniel Neville-Lake, 9, Harrison Neville-Lake, 5, and Milagros (Millie) Neville-Lake, 2. Grandfather Gary Neville, 65, was also killed. The mother of the three kids was devastated as she thought it was just a “nightmare” when she saw it all on live TV. His trial is still being awaited but the maximum sentence for impaired driving causing death is life in prison and Neville-Lake says it is crucial for politicians and the courts to know that the public supports that ruling. Many believe the “Muzzo money” will talk and the charges will be lighter on Marco. “It’s money,” shrugged one court observer as she overheard Greenspan declare that he would “not tolerate” anyone approaching the Muzzo family. Although, sources have said Marco was a good, “down to heart” man and never let money get him sidetracked. As his lawyer says, “Marco is, first of all, devastated by the horrific loss of life and has expressed to me on numerous occasions his condolences and sympathy to the family” [4].

Family Success

[edit]

Family Success Marco is named after his tremendously successful grandfather, also known as Marco Muzzo. His grandfather was Ontario’s real-estate magnate, ranked amongst Canada’s wealthiest. The reason why the name “Marco Muzzo” has been passed down from generation to generation is because of the Italian tradition where “fathers often name sons after their boys’ paternal grandfathers as a sign of respect” [5] He came from Italy in the 1950’s and founded one of Canada’s biggest drywall producing companies.[6]This was the beginning of Marel Contractors, as he continued to strive towards success with doing many of Ontario’s massive building projects, some of them being, the Trump Hotel, Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Scarborough Town Centre.[7]The Muzzo estate is worth nearly $1.8 billion, according to Canadian Business' 2015 ranking of Canada's richest people.[8]
