Pastoral theory

In the past four hundred years, a range of writers have worked on theorizing the nature of pastoral. These include Friedrich Schiller,[1] George Puttenham,[2] William Empson,[3] Frank Kermode,[4] Raymond Williams,[5] Renato Poggioli,[6] Annabel Patterson,[7] Paul Alpers,[8] and Ken Hiltner.[9]
