Apostle Lawrence Campbell is the founder of Bibleway Cathedral in Danville, Virginia. As one of the cofounders of the Danville Christian Progressive Association, for which he served as secretary, he was a leader in organizing protests in Danville during the Civil Rights Movement in the summer of 1963. Campbell was arrested on June 10th, 1963, on what has been historically commemorated as "Bloody Monday" when he and more than 60 African American demonstrators were surrounded and attacked by deputized garbage collectors while holding a prayer vigil in an area adjacent to Danville's municipal building. The group had organized and left from what was then the Bibleway Church.
Campbell began his ministry under Bishop Smallwood E. Williams, a leader in the Civil Rights Movement in Washington, DC and founder of the Bibleway Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Worldwide organization. Campbell founded the Bibleway Church in Danville, Virginia and eventually served as Chief Apostle of the organization after Bishop William's death.
